Stressed by a Child’s Relentless Demands for Attention

In this episode: A frustrated mom who describes herself as “desperate for help” seeks advice about her persistent, high-energy 2.5-year-old, who dominates her and her husband’s time and energy with relentless demands to be the focus of their universe — all day, every day.

  1. I was wondering if you think in case of a working mom, there should be a difference in terms of the amount of time we give in to our child’s demand for playing with them, because they don’t get our attention during the day as much..

    1. Hi! I would only do what you can and are willing to do. The most important quality time will be in the caregiving moments (mealtime, bathing/dressing, bedtime rituals) and transitions (saying your goodbyes in the morning, school drop-offs and pick-ups, etc.). I would make the most of those, which means no phones, texting, or other distractions.
