elevating child care

Thank You For Sharing

I appreciate those of you who shared your favorite parenting and child-related sites with me on Facebook. I’ve been scoping out the ones I wasn’t aware of and revisiting the ones I know. If you’re looking to lose yourself for several hours — ignore your children, husband, pets, laundry, and get so stiff you can’t stand up again without groaning — this is a really good way.

And now, I’m happy to present your finds…

Inspired By Pikler (http://www.inspiredbypikler.org.nz ) is from New Zealand and has information about people working with infants and toddlers, many of whom have been trained in “Educaring”. Educaring is Resources For Infant Educarers (RIE) founder Magda Gerber’s child care approach, and was inspired by her work with Dr Emmi Pikler. And, there’s exciting news: the first RIE Conference ever held outside  the U.S. is set for October 16, 2010 in Christchurch, N.Z. (For information: http://www.nzrieconference.com)

      RE: Little Pickle blogspot
The then president of the largest national educational organization, NAEYC, speaking to a crowd of about 500 early childhood teachers sometime in the 90′s, passionately informed a standing ovation audience that “Time outs are psychologically damaging to children of all ages!” Magda Gerber used to ask, ‘Time out…of what? Time out of life? Time IN!” Life has conflict built-in so we humans can develop into whole, resilient people from birth.

    Hi Janet,

I just found this site this week, and I think it’s such a great resource and so compatible with RIE, that I was inspired to write an article and post a link on my blog. It is: http://www.motherstyles.com.

What a great list, I’m checking out the ones I don’t know.

This is admittedly self-serving, but honest. When we had trouble finding a parenting site that was thoughtful, non-didactic, balanced with diverse perspectives and overtly welcoming dads, we started our own: Parents Guild – http://parentsguild.com

There’s also an accompanying blog at http://blog.parentsguild.com

Let us know what you think.

    All the best,
    andrea @parentsguild

wow… what a great list. Will take me a while to go through it all…
Allow me to add my little blog http://piklerexperience.blogspot.com/
It’s still only filled with a few posts but hopefully there is more to come when the little man gets older.

    thank you!
